I'm never going to be for censoring the news, IP.

Ever. In any way large or small. Despite any intentions or to any end.

If it burns the world to the ground, so be it.

Anyone remember when journalistic integrity was not for sale?

Good thing we're focusing on critical thinking in our educational systems.

    Nothing to worry about.

If it's bona fide news, I agree but this fake news epidemic has to be dealt with.

It is impossible to believe that any censoring of the news can align with your many other and well-known beliefs, particularly as it relates to liberty and freedom. The freedom of the press is exactly and intentionally interwoven with the other tenants of the First Amendment, and which you would excoriate anyone for even suggesting they be infringed, and quite rightfully so.

This cannot be done. Not accurately. Not fairly. Not well. Not at all.

    Period.

It is not even a point of serious debate.

Just cover to censor an opposing view.

Where is the liberal outrage for these fake news:
    1) Jayson Blair New York Times
    2) Dan Rather story on Bush in 2004
    3) Rolling Stone Rape Story
    4) Hillary escaping gun fire in the tarmac in Bosnia
    5) Brian Williams NBC
    6) Hands Up Don't Shoot
    7) Protest in Benghazi over a video

Just off hand, weren't Blair, Rather and Williams basically fired for those actions?

Also, there are some types of speech that aren't protected, if one wants to go down that path of argument. I'm not saying I'm justifying censorship of the media, but there are kinds of precedents for curtailing dangerous types of speech.

I think a better argument may be some kind of labeling or something less nefarious, less Orwellian, to identify purposely fake news stories, although that also can have slippery slope issues, as well. Again, I don't necessarily think something like this should be done, but I do think an argument can be made better than the one I've done and I would consider it.

    Yes. This is the answer.

And, here we are again, with the left trying to violate individual freedoms and liberty.

I think the proliferation of fake news is dangerous, but do not want the government in any way censoring it. It would be too easy to squash an independent or small blog/paper releasing real news that some might find bad news for them.

That said, a real educational effort should be put out about this. PSA and other means warning people to check and double check their news. That people can fake being CNN or NBC news.

There was bipartisan anger at every fake news story you listed. If you have a source saying otherwise, well...

KPT, where did I say anything about censoring someone, or infringing the first amendment? Thanks.
