My 3 year old caught a three lb large mouth this weekend. He will fish from daylight to dark. My oldest caught a few too, but he's hell bent on beating his brother now
And a lifetime of memories. Your children will be telling their children stories about fishing with you.
The only way to fish if the bait has any weight at all. Once you get the brake set right, you’ll be fine.
I think part of it is I got a 50 coconut combo from Walmart. I'll spend 250 coconuts on a spinner combo, but I cheaped out on the baitcaster. The other thing is, I have to hold it and wind with the wrong hands. It's really confusing. Then when I get a little cocky, boom, rat's nest
For baits that have some weight to them. A spinner reel is still better for light baits when a more finesse approach is needed
You can buy baitcasters that have the reel on the left side. I’ve bought all mine that way, I can’t reel right handed.
Take a half ounce weight and set up a bucket. Under hand pitch it in the bucket until you don't backlash it, then start over hand casting. I started with a bucket, then plastic cups. My dad would set them up all over the house and I would flip and pitch all day.
I like shimano baitcasters, they have a brake system you can mess with until you get it right. I'm sure others have it, but that's the ones I learned with
BIL asked me last night if me and the boy would want to do a chartered fishing trip in Destin this summer. He's handing the details, but we're going out in one of the bays.
Gag grouper opens here June 1 and the red snapper opens June 11 for 40 days in federal waters. June can't get here soon enough.
