I find it interesting anyway. https://www.bloombergquint.com/glob...d-majority-of-income-taxes-in-2016#gs.XqtWAfE
So there is as much income tax paid in 1400 returns from the top taxpayers as paid by the bottom 50% of all taxpayers? Am I reading that right?
and ask the typical middle class american what is going on with the tax system and they'll tell you they are getting screwed and the rich are getting a free pass. great marketing i guess
I might be tax/math illiterate but it doesnt seem particularly egregious for the top 20% or so to be paying 65% of the taxes when they hold like 90% of US wealth
I see it used from time to time by those that think the system isn't "fair". It comes off to me like a hostage situation or a flashback to "you didn't build that" type idea. Don't prefer anything really, just thinks its interesting how its phrased.
I think it is just a word. "Hold", "own", or "have" is all the same, really. And the fact is, that 10% of the population owns 85-90% of the assets in this country. Cold fact, no judgment or agenda. Simple, cold fact.
Not disputing that. Have had plenty of "fair share" conversations in regards to taxes and wealth. The terms and phrasing seem to change depending on which side you re looking at from.
Oh, and as an aside, you need to change your avatar. I am triggered and am now searching for a safe space.
So we can agree that if the top 10 control 90% of the wealth and pay 90% of the taxes it's fair as is, right?
No, I think a progressive tax system is fair. One can be taxed equally for each threshold of earnings. I.e. no one is taxed on their first 15k, then 10% from 15k to 30k, then 20% from 30k to 60k... etc etc. Both the 15k and the 60k person paid 0 taxes on their first 15k. Both paid 10% on the next 15k, of which one was paying 10% of nothing The numbers are just made up for illustrative purposes. To say a very wealthy person paid x% of all taxes doesn't speak to fairness at all to me, as it is all relative.
20% of my income is different from 20% of Trumps income? 20% means both of us are working 1 day for the man, one day for our family, right?
