It has never been illegal to putt with the flag in place. If you struck the ball from on the putting surface, and it hit the flag, there was a penalty of two strokes and you had to play the next hole with your pants around your ankles. Some people have it tended. Some people aim for it.
That's the only real reason I could imagine, to keep club players from having to wait while their partner tends it for them. Not sure it makes any sense with caddies.
I've kind of started playing again, mainly to keep up with the boy. Brought the clubs out of storage and my driver was in two pieces. New driver, right?! So...when did drivers start requiring users manuals and special tools? Also, when did they reach the $500 price tag? I think maybe I've been away too long.
pre injury I was playing twice a week. Some buddies have Epic and other even newer expensive drivers. Then they use them until next years model comes out and spend another $500. One guy tried to change his club from hook to slice in between holes with a ratchet tool. I like this 2 year old Ping head I've had. I went to Golf Galaxy for them to put a nice shaft in it a few months back and was hitting as far as the rest of my group.
Every time I go golfing, it takes until about the 3rd or 4th hole for me to wonder, "Why the hell did I spend so much money to come out here and do something I'm so bad at and don't even really enjoy?"
I get my money's worth better on little Par 3 courses. They are cheap. I can't seem to get my driver swing and iron swings decent on the same day. So I take the driver and woods out of the equation. I get a little exercise because I pull the bag.
Only reason i play is due to the group. 12 or so and range from 2 to a 20 handicap. Random draw teams. Stroke off low handicap and play team low net ball for $20/man. Same game within 4some and add presses if chosen to. Everybody enjoys drinking, music. And it's our only competitive outlet.
We joined a kickball and flag football league, and we run somewhat regularly. My bigger problem is that some of my colleagues like to play, so I have to play at least a little bit so as not to completely embarrass myself. If I could ever hit my driver straight, I might be alright.
I’m not good enough for that to matter. Last 2 drivers and last 3 iron set purchases have all been used, and then I’ll get them fitted as needed, if needed. I will buy new wedges. My current putter I bought new, but have used hand me downs in the past.
Beating and out putting somebody using a cheap putter vs their Scotty Cameron or similar is gratifying and can be brought up at the right time if needed. I'm gonna have to totally change my swing if i want to try and play again. No way I can torque this left plant knee. May just have to swing and walk right thru it somehow.
I don't hesitate to spend good money on a club if it works well for me. My game improved the most when I finally ponied up the money and got good clubs that fit my game well.
Just bought the M5. Loving it so far as I’ve played 4 rounds with it in 3 weeks. Most I’ve ever played during baseball season.
