Imo if Grant comes back, it will be due to how well rounded he is. He will be successful at whatever he chooses outside of basketball, with business offers already offered should basketball not work out. I don't believe he will try to play just for the payday. He will lose the ability to do some of the things he enjoys, which will play a larger role than NBA, where he will probably go to developmental league. Needs to be able to hit the 3 anyway.
It's kind of crazy how much seems to hinge on him coming back next season. If he returns, we are a very good team again next year. That likely continues to help immensely with recruiting, which hopefully helps us reload in the 2020 class, which we desperately need. Assuming Bone and Grant come back, next year, we lose Bone, Bowden, Grant, Turner. Unless we think Pons and Jalen Johnson are going to play significant minutes at the 2 and 3 moving forward, then we have to reload there, and unless we think Walker, Fulk, and Burns are going to hold it down at the 4 and 5, we need to reload there too. In that 2020 class, we already have a commitment from the #31 overall player, who plays the 3. We are heavy favorites for the #32 overall player, a shooting guard. We have significant interest from the #12 overall player, another shooting guard. Just those 3 alone would be enough to keep us relevant, but we also have interest from #16 overall player, a 6'10 Center, and #67 overall player, a 6'9 Power Forward. Throw one of these 2 in the mix with the other 3, and we are looking pretty solid for the future. But if Grant doesn't return? We likely struggle next year, which could easily stymie recruiting efforts and turn guys off of the program. That probably leads to an even worse team the following season.
