The amount of "trust the coaches" sentiment out there is finite from a practical standpoint. After a while, it becomes insulting to a fan base to continually start a player, who in four seasons we've rarely seen play well, and claim that he is the best option available. The logic for playing him is receding very quickly. One of the few reasons I can see at this point is putting him in as a glorified tackling dummy against bammer to protect Bailey for the future, but we've seen this move before. They just need to make sure he wears a patch honoring Simms or Worley if they take that route.
Old school who practices better stuff is fine for most, but part of a coaches job is to realize some kids can play ball when the lights are on, and some cant. Most coaches realize it pretty quickly. Unfortunately, this crew cant get it.

Can you imagine weighing the potential ramifications of playing Guarantano: - losing the team - losing your job - losing your credibility versus the potential benefits of playing Guarantano: - not a goddam thing and then making the decision to ride with JG as your starter? Unfathomable.
Maybe not a great look to be picking a quarterback publicly, but desperate times. I appreciate the sack on the guy for stepping up and making a statement that shouldn’t have ever been necessary in the first place.
Tennessee fans are forgiving people. But playing JG anymore going forward will irreparably fracture the common sentiment that Tennessee fans always show their HC.
