Even though it means having to suffer through Chris Berman, the only All-Star type event in any sport that I love to watch is the Home Run Derby. Who's your pick? I fear it's going to be Trumbo. The whole AL squad seems stacked to me.
Berman represents the worst aspect of American sports broadcasters. He treats everything he does like we're tuning in to watch him. The HR derby entertains me a little bit, but I get tired of it quickly. Watching it from the start, but I don't know if I make it to the end unless Beltran is still going. Mainly I just hope he doesn't a) get hurt and/or 2) ruin his swing.
Bautista definitely looked better than last year. Side note. That white catcher's mitt with blue lacing is sweet looking. Can't imagine trying to pitch into though.
The sanctity of the home run derby was forever tarnished when Bobby Abreu hit 146 home runs in it one year then didn't hit another until September. Speaking of Home Run Derby, raise your hand if you watched this show after school about 4:00 when ESPN used to be cool in the early 90s:
After school most days, ESPN would show old school wrasslin', followed by Home Run Derby, and then the Roy Firestone Show. If we were lucky, maybe some Australian Rules football thrown in for variety. The good old days.
