Think it could be why he was so hesitant to hire good assistants he didn’t know and trust

It's 100% correct. He was scared to death to hire a young up and coming OC

Now, in the AD chair, he's not worried about hiring his replacement

I think I sort of misread what JQK meant in his post. I'm with you.

It's a shame though, because if he'd hired well enough he might have hired his replacement, but oftentimes the great coordinators are ill suited to become head coaches. It's easy for people to say that Cutcliffe/Chavis were behind Fulmer's success, but that's garbage. A dumbass head coach might stay on the mountain top for a couple years, but never long term. It takes a special skillset to be capable of leading a top program, and Fulmer had it.

Whatever the reasons behind what happened, it would appear he may have learned from his mistakes.

[uck fay] Lil Jimmy Haslam, Hamilton and Hart for all the shit that followed.

He recruited while Cut and Chavis ran their sides of the ball.

If Fulmer lets Clawson hire his staff instead of forcing two entirely different types together, who knows what happens

Or at least keeps the forced staff from under cutting the legs of the new OC that he had just hired.

It's almost like some of the old crew wanted Clawson to fail.

    Fulmer played this perfectly.

He gave the Lady Vawlz fans exactly what Zhe/Zhey/Zhem wanted.

He won’t have to worry about the Lady Vawlz for five (5) years, minimum.

He saved app. $1M and moved it to men’s hoops, instead.

And they think he’s a hero for having done it. Which he is, but not for the reasons they believe.

I still think it would have been bad. Clawson's had a crappy first year everywhere he's been. Now if he'd hired Clawson back in 2003 or so, he could have survived that.

Based on Clawson's history, that first year turns out exactly the same. Takes him a good bit to get his offense installed.

all while staying in the bounds of the Summitt legacy. if it doesnt work out, no one will hold the hire against fulmer. if it works out, he's a champion to the LV community. can't lose.
