I know that he got $2.5M to go away, but it’s still just unfathomable to me as to how he went from the new UTAD to being unemployed in only a matter of 9 months. I simply did not think that such would ever be possible, especially at Tennessee, almost under any circumstance, save some unforeseen and earth-shattering personal scandal. Absent that, it’s honestly amazing how quickly and terribly he screwed this up, and himself out of this gig. But, just like that, he goes from Golden Boy to disgraced has-been. I’m not saying it isn’t well-deserved, but damn, that’s a monumental fall. It’s interesting to watch him to be so clearly auditioning for a new gig, and using all of the buzzwords that such requires. Honestly. He was just doing what he was told by the guy mainly responsible for him having the position to begin with. In a rare occurrence he backed the wrong horse at the wrong time. He normally "wins" out.
It’s going to be very, very hard for him to explain how he went rogue on a KState booster’s plane, was completely out of pocket for so long that they feared for his personal safety, and that he not only didn’t immediately come home when instructed by the Chancellor...but even kept meeting with coaches. Surely some small school sees his legit experience, and gives him a chance....but I can’t fathom any large school ever giving him the time of day.
