Was all of hatvol’s VN content scrubbed? Seems like they may have completely deleted any record of his existence there. If not, I’ll go through it later and try to dig up some gems.
Think it was the Dooley coached UT/UF matchup that was so hyped that I met him at a tailgate. Definitely did not match his internet portrayal, tried to do good irl.
I am very sorry to hear this news. I met Keith for drinks the Friday before a game several years ago. He was a really cool guy. Much more chill than his online persona. RIP Hatvol96
It was a bit. I always appreciated that he could break that one out at any point and the rubes would flock to it like a moth to a flame.
Thanks for the kind words. Hope you've been well. I've got plenty of time on my hands now. I'll see what I can do.
I don't know if anyone's said much about Hat's knowledge of professional wrestling, but this tribute thread would be incomplete without saying that I've never met anyone who knew more about it than Hat. Loved to listen to his 'rasslin' stories particularly the old school tales.
And usually one would come away a little smarter after having their perspective critically challenged by him. I truly credit hashing out various opinions with him on the VolNation days when I was teenager for making me a better thinker, debater and writer. He was just as helpful in my intellectual development as many of my actual teachers IRL were. I followed his work on Twitter, and recently he'd openly lament there how he deeply regretted choosing becoming an attorney instead of an educator/coach. Yet much of his life seemingly revolved around making those around him a little bit smarter and more informed. He *did* educate and enlighten many of us over the years. I hope he knew that.
The one where the guys wanted to walk into a cage match with a Malcom x flag in Eastern Kentucky had me in tears. "No, no, no, that's a terrible idea!"
The Manning, Bruce Pearl and Phil Fulmer wars of Hat vs. the VolNation sheep were can't miss reading material.
