When there are questions about almost every aspect of Tennessee football, you have to look at the top. Even in the NIL era, it looks to me like too big of a mess to fix in one year.
Spend whatever is necessary on the line. That's where the biggest issue was, hands down. The safeties sucked but the number of times we had opposing RBs not touched until 5 yards down the field was astounding. The middle of our DL was absolute dogshit, a [uck fay]ing embarrassment. We gave up more 8-12 yard runs this season than I can remember.
If you could merge the best parts of Garner and Tracy Rocker you’d have a truly great DL coach. But Garner is merely good. Without elite or very very good talent he’s nothing special.
And how many times did a DL have the QB dead to rights only to whiff on a lunge to give up a play? Someone many times. Became predictable.
should be a challenge/reviewable play. Have I not seen before when officials go back and throw a flag for too many men on the field? Feel like I have
No defensive coach is that good without elite talent. Kirby is about the best there is and he’s has some bad moments on defense this year without the elite level players he has been having. Nick Fairley makes Garner or rocker look good if they coach him.
The Garner takes seems a little insane to me but what do I know? Maybe I’m missing something. No one was complaining about Garner’s unit last year. If anyone deserves a break, it’s him. He has 3 DTs from last year on NFL rosters.
he’s had 2 DTs drafted in 5 years and one was a transfer already on nfl radar and Butler who he had for 1 season. I expect more from “one of the best.” Better recruiting and to not be pushed around.
I couldn’t care less how many he had drafted. We had one of the best DLs in the country last year and it covered up a lot of other warts we had on that side of the ball. I get your point but I’m not worried about Garner.
