Not that I can think of off the top of my head. I still don't see the big issue with it. Not that I agree with it or not, but it happens. In every major sport. Baseball is my "first love" with sports. I do like football more now (NCAA > NFL), but I don't think I could ever not be a fan of baseball (just like as much as the Vols and Redskins suck, I can't not like them). It may have helped that I was only 10 at the time of the stoppage.
I bet your age did help a lot. I was in my 20s and a rabid fan. Pissed me off that these players making millions couldn't get along with the billionaire owners. When the union did a lot of good in the early 70s, you can get behind that. But by 1994, they were just greedy assholes arguing over whether they get 1.5 million of 1.6 million, and when you are making 18k a year, it doesn't resonate so well with you.
Growing up in Memphis, the Chicks were expos minor league team. I remember the ice cream helmet cups. Then for KC, just in time to see Bo hit the farthest ball in a game ive ever seen.
I was thrilled they were back. I was pissed over it, but 14 years old and didn’t really have a dog in the fight. Just wanted baseball back
That rings a bell now that you mention it. I have probably watched zero NHL games in my lifetime, so I hope you can excuse my lack of knowledge in that realm.
Arguing about $100,000 seems like a narrow minded view of what the labor unions of professional athletes actually do.
That’s the perception for a lot of common fans, though. Bunch of millionaires arguing over spare change.
