I have to say, "OH! The band is out on the field!" is perhaps one of the greatest calls in sports. You say that, and everyone knows what it is.
unfortunately because of this call and it making him famous we've been stuck with starkey calling our games on radio for eternity. try listening to the call without watching the video and see if you have any idea what's going on. imagine having that experience for a full game, 11 games a year. thank god everything is on tv now. guy hasn't given the down and distance for 30 years.
my favorite starkey call is "treggs caught a pass over there" no indication of how far he went, whether it got a first down, what side of the field. I'd seriously pay good money to see him fired.
People [itch bay] about Kessling incessantly, but they'd really have no clue how much worse it could be.
Yeah, I thought his call of The Play was way over the top, with very little actual information, always have.
