I understand what you're explaining, but why filter for what we think it looks like?

 

In this case, it looks like they mostly changed the focus and contrast to sharpen the image. Note the change in the dust on the lens and the detail of the rocks.

 

Yeah, there's more stuff on the enhanced one. (I think, the brown one?) But this is how we get the conspiracy crap IMO, and how a dumbass hillbilly like me start asking questions about motives for changing the colors or whatever

Just show people a raw photo you take of someone at dusk so that it looks like a black picture with what looks like what might be people in it, then run it through photoshop so you can see the people but it bleeds colors and changes the picture somewhat. I imagine that is what is happening here.

But I am no expert on this at all.

And the great thing is that they leave the raw images up on their web site for you to download. So any conspiracy stuff should be headed off at the pass right there.

 

That's definitely the best thing to do, but you get one news outlet to show the enhanced picture, next thing you know, there's a million people that believe what they published, instead of going to the NASA website.

The "enhanced" picture is equally as true as the raw image. Visual perception is complicated.
