Dooley's jackass-ness ruined what was a pretty good opportunity to win big. He was such an overbearing ass hole, everyone quit on him
That and he thought recruits should just want to come to UT and play for him. Instead of actually selling the university and trying to be likeable.
With latest moves Pruitt is really stacking the deck with recruiters for the 2020 class. He's not going to accept anything less than a legit top 5 class. With this class and two years of player development will go a long ways in getting us over the hump.
How many games do we have to win this year for the recruiters to actually be able to do their job well and secure a top 5 class?
Well, Tennessee went 5-7 and signed between the 11th and 13th class. He's since hired two of the best recruiters in the country
There’s also a pretty big difference between the number 3 and number 13 class. Could be wrong but it doesn’t seem like you can effectively recruit the numbers you need to secure a number 3 class when you only win 5 games - regardless of who’s selling the program.
I don't think you can. I do think you can sale improvement and youth movement. Great players want to play with great players, if you win 7 or 8 with freshmen everywhere, you'll get their attention. Then, it's up to the staff.
The thing is, there really is no excuse not to win 7-8 next year. 8 wins with a bowl victory could really blow the recruiting up...
Word bouncing around that Ansley will be calling the defense this year. Would be a great move for Pruitt to let those reins loose.
Couldnt the difference actually be just 2 or 3 highly ranked players? Does the Ga class with Fields and Gibbs go from top 5 to out of top 10 if you take them out?
We have to make a bowl next year, to keep up any sizable or sustainable momentum in recruiting, IMO. The shelf life for recruiting on promises of improvement is two years, max.
Matthews talked about it today. Said he was brought in to call the plays, whether that be this year or sometime in the future he doesnt know, but it is apart of the future plan moving forward.
You can only sell immediate playing time for so long... hopefully next season will be the last time we have to play the PT card to get recruits attention. 8 wins with a bowl victory would be great improvement. If we somehow got to 9 wins Pruitt will be unstoppable in the 2021 recruiting cycle.
