Nah, 4 years will find a way to get a piece of that 2 years of college free pie. Wait and see. 4 years are getting less "harsh" all the time.

I taught an adjunct class in college to students where literally our only requirement was show up for a class an hour a week and write a 2 page paper at the end for 2 units. We had 5 people stop coming out of 25 and even after I emailed all of them and told them I'd pass them if they just wrote the paper, 3 people never responded, and I had to fail them.

I thought much of my four years was ridiculously easy, and that was around 20 years ago. That, booze, and a girl nearly got me in trouble one semester.

I'll admit to downloading them from sites trying to redirect me to Asian porn. Book prices are ridiculous. The most annoying thing now is putting in "online content" that requires a code and forcing purchases that you can't even get used.

They've already got tons of free money through Washington. Which has sky rocketed the price

Instructors have a responsibility to not require access to that crap, imo.

One of my roommates, a geography major, had a teacher do that.

I'm guessing it had to be the same guy.

I see that quite a bit here at my job. I believe that is a conflict of interest and should not be allowed.

EDIT: Unless, of course, you are teaching a course on something so cutting edge that the only text available is your own book.

It indeed was. He was a great guy. His classes could be boring for some, but I enjoyed them. One of the only faculty members I knew to have season tickets and attend every home game.

these were introductory courses by and large. one of the asses did win a nobel prize, so I suppose he felt justified. he'd literally say "X said on page 12 of the textbook" and quote himself. this was an expensive text book too. his TAs would give him a standing ovation after ever lecture. I dropped his course immediately after that.

A standing ovation? Wow. I have never seen that.

One of the geography professors was the father of a member of Weezer. Might have been a cool department.

every single lecture. I have no doubt he told them to do it either. he was a pompous ass of the highest order.

Dr. Bell, he moved on from the department awhile ago though. Think he and his wife went to Western Kentucky because she was offered a faculty position there. Another great guy.

He was (is) an Iowa grad and fan, incidentally.

He had to of. I had a professor I TA'ed for insist we carry his laptop, bag, etc for him and do all the setting up/taking down. He would then act slightly frustrated with us and kind of put on a show at having a team of people fussing over his stuff in from of classes of 150+. It was absurd, but we did it.

We had a professor at my school teach out of his own book. Emailed everyone in the class the pdf and said he didn't care what the publisher might think. I liked him.

Someone out of the Family Studies or whatever department would do that. He'd have the pdf printed and bound, sell it for 10 bucks (at cost pretty much) instead of having us buy it as a book in addition to another book he assigned.

I had a teacher teach out of his own book, but it was a very upper level course and there probably weren't a whole lot more books on the matter for him to select.
