Which ones smell like semen?

 

I may end up planting a dogwood there once it comes down.

 

rotting flesh, and that is the ginkgo. it relies on flies for pollination as it largely evolved its reproductive strategy before bees and is kind of a throwback.

 

Bradford pears smell like decay, too. Pellissippi State has a shit ton of them and in spring the campus can have the faint smell of roadkill

 

When my wife and I bought our first house, we closed on a Friday afternoon and were at the house the next morning doing some work on the inside. It was a beautiful day outside with no noticeable wind or breeze and all of a sudden I heard the cracking wood sound. Turned around in time to watch one of the two Bradford Pears in the front yard split down the middle and fall against the house. They were both gone by lunch time on Monday.

 

Were those the one at UT around Humanities? It was always a dreadful smell around there.

yes, bright yellow leaves in early fall, distinctively shaped and tend to flutter

 

That's them. Entire area smelled like one big piss.

 

yep, that's them. interesting trees, not native but not invasive, not a great choice to put near walking spaces yet folks do all the time.

 

I love the way ginkos look, particularly in the fall. The wife and I discussed planting a couple on our building lot, but that smell...

 

it doesn't travel too far. depends on how much space you have.
