Regardless of the outcome in 2025 football, our grandsons are pumped about Vol athletics. They are all in on football,, basketball, baseball, and etc.. Oldest grandson is texting about and watching the Mercer game. This stuff never would have happened 5 years ago.

 

So, today is my 42nd, and I swear this isn’t about self-promotion on my birthday but something pretty cool happened this year.

I’ve wanted to go to a Michelin Star restaurant for a while just to mark it off the list. I guess I’m what they call a foodie (although I kinda hate the term) and it’s something my wife and I enjoy doing together. So a few months back when she asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday this year I said, let’s just go down to Atlanta and go to one.

For a number of reasons, that didn’t pan out, so we booked a reservation at our favorite place in Nashville, a place called Locust that’s received some other well-deserved accolades. Well go there probably more than is reasonable, but we love it and love the people there. So we go last night and have probably my favorite experience there to date, which is saying something because it’s always fantastic, but they really made sure it was special for me.

Well, it turns out Michelin is finally getting to more spots in the South, and doing a guide for the South region, and lo and behold, Locust was invited to the ceremony today along with a bunch of other restaurants from all over the state and region. The chef told me they didn’t tell any of the invitees ahead of time if they were getting a star or one of the other lower (but still big deal) recognitions instead. But I will say, I’ve been to this place going on 20 times and I’ve been to a bunch of other spots too, and just the consistency in delivering an excellent meal and overall experience… if there is a more deserving place in Nashville, I haven’t found it.

And, y’all, I’ll be damned if they didn’t receive a Michelin Star on my birthday, one day after eating there again. I’m a little worried it’s gonna be harder to get reservations now, but I’m thrilled for them all the same.

So I started off the day never having been to one, and I finished the day having been to two, as another place we went several months back got a Star as well (and another excellent place at that, called Bastion).
