IMO, recruiting was Pearl's downfall. That and false witness.

I was always under the impression that UK wanted Hopson too, maybe I am wrong. The point is Pearl brought in guys that took us to the elite eight. He wasn't too below average on the recruiting trail.

I'm not following. Kentucky wanted him.

I think it's tough to say he wasn't a very good recruiter. He landed some big names -- and a lot of sub-big-names...the Kenny Hall's of the world -- and the trendline appeared to be heading in the right direction. Sure, he missed on some guys, but that's going to happen at Tennessee...or anywhere, really.

The "if" part doesn't match the "always" part. Believe me, I'm rooting for Cuonzo to succeed, but he has made recruiting decisions to date that one might call....er....criticizable.*

*not sure if that's a word.

He has to field a team, and has had little option.

Keeping his "big names" eligible was the problem.

I always thought Pearl's recruiting helped cover up to an extent his faults as an X and O guy.

I might use the term "questionable".
