But how deep are we talking here? http://observer.com/2016/08/not-a-d...cket&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=pockethits
This sort of thing is exciting, but also very early. If it turns out to be a signal from another civilization, it will be the single biggest event and discovery in all of human history. But wake me when they actually find something concrete. I wish they wouldn't release stuff like this until it is further vetted.
95 light years away. Pfft. They don't even know we exist yet. We have a sneak attack opportunity, people.
Interesting. Can't jump to conclusions though. Last time I turned out to be a microwave in the break room
i read the article and I don't understand why they are saying it would have to be from an advanced civilization. wouldn't our signals reach them?
what is the basis for "advanced civilization?" we're that, compared to ancient Greece. Although it would be at least 95 million years since they sent the signals, if we're just now getting them, at the speed of light?
they were talking about a dyson sphere so that's pretty damn advanced compared to us. I though it was 95 light years away?
Yes, but you might need a gigantic dish to pick them up that far away. And of course, our earliest extra-planet signals could not have reached them yet.
I'm completely wrong about my last post. But I think it would take 95 years for us to beam a radio wave toward their planet, and we haven't been shooting radio waves out that long, I don't think.
