My guess is that Fulmer hired Steele just in case Pruitt didn’t make it. He was going to just promote Steele and make him the head coach, because Fulmer thought, even if his hands were tied on firing Pruitt, the university would never force him out too.

 

Didn't you hear? He retired, completely unrelated to Pruitt and purely coincidental on the timing. Sending a monthly goodwill check to him for the next couple of years as a token of our appreciation.
