The quality of online programs, while not uniformly so, are abysmal. And having a state school name slapped on it doesn't matter.

I have a college degree, but I also know a trade. I don't use my degree, but I make a living using the trade I know.

There's nothing wrong with not going to college

I cringe anytime I see someone reference Prager videos. It's not even a university, and it's nothing more than ultra-conservative mantra misrepresenting its dissent into ridiculously reductive and simple ways.

    Fair.

What did they get wrong, exactly?

To be fair, I bet at least a quarter of students don't care one iota about quality. They just want a degree because the job market says you have to have a bachelors degree.

Hence why my boss, who is taking some kind of class for a degree, said to me "Hey, C's get degrees."

Yes, and then employers say they can't find good, qualified people and import labor from India. Meanwhile good, qualified people are lost in the noise of hundreds of applications for a good job and look indistinguishable on paper. So then it becomes about networking, and knowing someone on the inside to put in a good word. Which has it's own sort of biases.

The shitty situation post-secondary education is in creates a lot of ripples, even without considering the impact of trillions in debt from graduates. Universities without quality predatory and a cancer.

So you're saying the new gov't voucher system for private schools is a bad idea because those schools will jack up tuition prices bilking taxpayers?

I send my kids to a private Christian school. I would love a voucher but I do fear that the schools would start to jack up the rates. I could easily see my rate going to 16K + my current rate because the school already knows I can pay the current rate.

If a private school accepted the voucher then they would have to agree to not charge more than that.

The other fear I would have is that gubmint once it starts paying would insinuate itself into curriculum, the lunchroom and social engineering (like the LGBTQ stuff.)

The school averages 10pts higher on ACT than TN public schools but I have my kids in there for moral instruction. I was an honor student in public high school and know that it did not prepare me for college in the least. I can teach my children anything that they need to know much better than the average teacher.

However public schools have 8 hrs to put socialistic, licentious and anti-American thoughts into my kids heads.

Undoing that is more difficult than me tutoring them in English, Math, History and Science.

That's why Jay and I are such good teachers, as it takes us much less than 8 hours to put make them into licentious, anti-American socialists.

Private Christian schools the whole way.

My personal morals. No god. Big time in favor of helping the LGBT community.

Public school all the way. Don't remember any Communist Sessions. In fact, I keep an eye on my kids public school education because I worry they might get too much conservative and Christian thought.

I used to be a staunch Conservative, but in the last 10 years, I have turned more and more into a Progressive.

I didn't realize engineering & problem solving was anti-American. Huh.

I've never understood the total fear some Christians have of public education system. I live in one of the five best school systems in the state and many either send their kids to a far weaker academic Christian school or home school. And so far the only gripe I've had is they don't use the letter people in kindergarten to teach letters.

I'm a Christian & teach in public schools. Does the former override the latter & condemn me to Hell? Same question for my mom who is a veritable saint.

The boy had to read a book about Obama one night. The next night he read one about Reagan. Oh well.
