The Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation serves at the pleasure of the President of the United States.

Firing Comey won't alter the FBI's investigative work, in any direction.

So what's the point of an FBI Director if they don't influence what the Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating?

IMO, Comey was fired for not supporting Trumps claim that he was wire tapped by Obama; and for not forcefully squelching the Russia colusion stuff.

Comey was not personally investigating Russia. Same people investigating yesterday are investigating today.

    Comey is relieved.

I think this is all true. But the next guy is not going to be able to do those things either without looking like a political hack.

I don't see how he could get 51 votes in the current climate.

I was thinking Chris Christie but I could see Trump going with Rudy.

Trump can do anything he wants. Anything. Dems don't have enough power to stop him, and Repubs are 100% behind him. Trump was 100% correct when he said he could shoot someone on the street and wouldn't lose a single supporter.

I fully expect Rudy to be the next FBI Director. It's the most logical "next" event that this admin could do.

He most certainly is not supported by Republican across the board. Where have you been?

Trey Gowdy would be choice number one for me.

Gowdy could get the votes, I think.

Still - how about someone who isn't / wasn't an elected politician?

Of course the Director has influence, but it isn't like James Comey was himself leading the investigation, interviewing people, etc.

I don't know what celebratory actions I'd be capable of doing if Trey Gowdy were named FBI Director.

But it'd be infinitely less than I'll do when Justice Kennedy resigns and Gowdy takes his seat.

And this post, not 36 hours after he shit-canned Comey.

    Stand by.

With that said, I don't think Gowdy would let it get to a vote.
