Woke up this morning to a little tropical storm. Tree branch fell on my truck and no power. How's the rest of the Florida boys?

Please be safe, stock up on as much gas as you can the next day or two.

Florence seems to have nearly completed its eye-wall replacement cycle tonight. We’ll see in the morning, but it looks like she will have a larger, more stable eye as she enters some warmer water. She’ll make her run at Cat 5 tomorrow it seems. She won’t maintain that strength, but the more organized, more stable the eye, and stronger the winds as she approaches sheer near landfall, likely the stronger she is at landfall.

It seems landfall could easily be anywhere from Wilmington NC to the OBX. It seems on storms gaining latitude that you rarely see big revisions back to the south. So I’d say likely Emerald Island or north.

Like Harvey, with the forecasted stall, the landfall is only going to be the first part of this story. Likely to be a long weekend if the forecasts hold.

I’m not even in town right now—wife and kids are alone, I fly back this evening. We’re probably 2.5 hours from the coast and not in a flood plain, so I’m not too worried about wind or water damage (although I definitely plan on taking some pictures of our backyard to send to the city who says our backyard fence is a flood risk and needs to be removed). We might get very strong winds, but they’re not going to be category 3-4 winds. The biggest risk for us is probably losing power for an extended time. Most of our power lines are buried, so I hope it’s not too bad, but I’ve also never lived in an area that gets hurricanes, so I’m not 100% sure

Theyre asking for volunteers to go to the Carolinas, I'm 50/50 right now.

We're sending 4 guys from here, didn't make the cut.

I see a bunch of teams in NC are canceling games this weekend, thereby still making Skip Bertman the only idiot who wanted to play a football game in the middle of a hurricane making landfall in 2005.

Yep, one of the games I had tickets to is already canceled. There is discussion of moving the NWSL semi-finals, which means North Carolina could conceivably finish with the best record in league history and need to play two road games (and no home games) on their path to the title. No official plan yet, but I doubt it’ll happen here. Waiting to hear what my job is going to say. If they say work remotely, we might just head to Tennessee and wait it out there

Looks to me like they've been told to bend over and like it.
