    ITEMS OF NOTE
¢ Oakland University, located in Rochester, Mich.,
has beaten Tennessee each of the last two seasons.
Those are the only meetings in the series.
The Golden Grizzlies posted an 89-82 win in
Knoxville on Dec. 14, 2010, and defeated UT 89-
81 last season in the Great Lake State.

¢ Head coach Greg Kampe is in his 29th season
at Oakland. Last Saturday, OU led by as many as
18 points at Pittsburgh before falling in overtime.
Oakland lost at Michigan State 70-52 Friday.

¢ The Grizzlies’ starters are accounting for approximately
85 percent of the team’s scoring this
season. Junior guard Travis Bader, considered
one of the top shooters in college basketball, is
Oakland’s top scorer (17.2 ppg) and is averaging
3.7 3-pointers made per game. Bader plays
an average of 38.7 minutes per game and also is
shooting 91 percent at the free-throw line.

¢ One of the top programs in the Summit League,
the Grizzlies have the third-best conference record
in the country over the last three years:
Kansas (45-5, Big XII), Murray State (46-6, Ohio
    Valley), Oakland (45-9, Summit League).

¢ Oakland set a Summit League record with three
postseason wins last year, as the Grizzlies made
it to the 2012 CollegeInsider.com postseason
    tournament semifinals.

¢ When the Vols and Grizzlies met last season
in Michigan, UT guard Jordan McRae scored a
    career-high-tying 25 points.

¢ Cuonzo Martin was teammates with Oakland
assistant coach Saddi Washington with the
Grand Rapids Hoops of the CBA in the late 1990s.

    LAST GAME VS. OAKLAND
¢ Tennessee never led and had no answer for
Reggie Hamilton, one of the top guards in the
country, as the Vols dropped an 89-81 decision
    at Oakland in Rochester, Mich.

    ¢ Hamilton finished with a game-high 35 points
    on 9-of-17 shooting, including a perfect 15-of-15
    at the free-throw line.

¢ The Golden Grizzlies outrebounded the Vols 41-
37 and got 10 more points off the bench than
    UT (19-9).

¢ Tennessee was led by sophomore shooting
guard Jordan McRae, who matched his careerhigh
with 25 points for the second straight game.

¢ Cameron Tatum added 19 points, five rebounds
and three assists, while Trae Golden scored a
    dozen.

¢ Oakland led by as many as 14 points (2:52 mark
in the first half), but Tennessee trimmed the Grizzlies’
lead to seven at halftime (39-32).

10 FOR McBEE = WIN FOR TENNESSEE
¢ Tennessee is 14-2 during senior Skylar McBee’s
career when he scores 10 or more points.

    SIXTH MAN SPARKPLUG
¢ Just as he did during the second half of last
season, junior wing Jordan McRae has provided
an offensive boost off the bench through four
    games for Tennessee.

¢ McRae ranks second on the team with 11.3
points per game, and he is shooting a teamleading
    .538 (7-for-13) from 3-point range.

¢ The Midway, Ga., native came off the bench
to score in double figures in six of UT’s last 14
    games last season.

    BIG ORANGE GLOBETROTTERS
¢ In the one-year period spanning from Nov. 19,
2011, to Nov. 19, 2012, the Vols have 10 days in
Italy and close to a week in both Maui and Puerto
    Rico.

    PRODUCTION INCREASE FOR J-RICH
¢ After averaging 2.9 points per game as a true
freshman last year, guard Josh Richardson is averaging
9.3 ppg through UT’s first four games.

¢ Now a starter on the wing, Richardson had 11
points and nine rebounds in the win over UMass.
    STARTING SHORTHANDED

¢ The Vols have begun the season with three
members of its 15-man roster sidelined by injuries.
Most notably, senior forward Jeronne Maymon,
    a second-team All-SEC performer and UT’s
second-leading scorer last season, is out with a
    knee injury.

¢ Fellow senior forward Dwight Miller also is still
    rehabbing following offseason knee surgery.

¢ Freshman guard Derek Reese had surgery in
August to address a labral tear. He started taking
part in limited practice drills when the team was
    in Puerto Rico in mid-November.

    UMASS RECAP
    ¢ Thanks to a career-high 24 points from Jarnell
Stokes, Tennessee captured third place in the
Puerto Rico Tipoff with a 83-69 victory over
UMass. The Vols (3-1) used a late surge to plow
    past the Minutemen (2-2).

¢ Stokes, an All-Tournament Team selection, added
a game-high 12 rebounds as the Vols ripped
down 51 boards for a +14 margin on the glass.

¢ Jordan McRae netted 12 points off the bench
while Trae Golden, Skylar McBee and Josh Richardson
each scored 11 for the Vols, who had five
    scorers in double figures.

¢ After falling behind momentarily, the Vols went
on a 17-2 run as Stokes scored six points in the
spurt to make it 61-54 UT with seven minutes left.
A McRae dunk had tied the game at 52, then his
3-pointer put the Vols ahead 57-54 with 8:15 left.

¢ The Vols made eight of 10 free throws in the
final 2:11 to ice the win.

¢ UMass was led by Jesse Morgan, who had 18
and Chaz Williams, who had 16 points, eight rebounds
    and eight assists.

¢ Tennessee’s defense buckled up down the
stretch and held the Minutemen to just 34.8 percent
    from the

Exactly how you exploit the zone; the bigs have to make the passes. All the rebounds are ours because they cannot block out.

Annoying for the other team, I should add.
