If Alabama hires Greg Marshall and we hire Barnes, I will be extremely upset.

 

I'll be upset no matter who we hire if Marshall ends up in Tuscaloosa.

 

Most of my friends and the majority of the fan base think Barnes is a solid hire, and I have not been able to convince them otherwise. And I think that's what upsets me the most, the fact no one else believes we deserve a better coach than Barnes because
"We aren't Duke". Such rubbish.
- "Barnes technically didn't even get fired from his last job, this is a steal"

 

It's weird that there isn't an outcry about this. I thought he was nationally seen as a guy lucky to have stuck there as long as he did, and having underachieved.

 

"He makes the tournament every year!"

"His resume is better than any coach in UT history!"

"It's amazing we can get someone like him in the condition our program is in!"

Take your pick of a dozen or so other comments along these similar lines.

I mean, I understand why you would like the hire, because he will probably take us back to the tournament, get the talent level up, and not stay around for too long (because he's already old). I just can't understand why you would think this is a coup.

 

With some folks, everything is a coup.

 

The real problem is that those are all factual.

It's not an exact match, but I think most places would be happy with Bob Stoops.
