They could but people sued immediately. We don't even give things a chance to work. And yes I was a big Obamacare backer. I like when people try different things to solve problems, instead of just continuing to point a fingers or talk about it.
And, that fits in with my not blaming Trump with the shooting. The shooter, as I said, is responsible for their own actions without any other consideration.
Like I said another poster made it about him when no one else was and started the whole thing. Said person is very dumb.
I’ve read everyone’s thoughts on the national guard and I still think I’d rather our taxpayer’s money to take real steps to address mental health issues in the country and prosecute actual government corruption instead of the performative surface level stuff. I’ve still heard nothing that can convince me that bringing in the national guard is gonna do anything to help long term.
Plenty fair. IMO you’d have to start with parenting issues, for example parents clueless their whack isolated kid is engraving bullets and has oozies. Then really get after the meds kids are being put on at young ages. I just had this convo yesterday as a friends daughters are taking the ACT and a lot of kids take ADHD med or similar to focus for 3 hours. When kids show depression or anxiety we immediately give them a pill where the first warnings read “may increase or cause suicidal thoughts, anxiety, heart palpitations,..”. Has to be a better way but would involve making changes with parents/kids and drs even before childbirth. I agree on not knowing long term. Maybe there will be task force there permanently to help with serving warrants and tracking down criminals as they don’t have the people in Memphis to handle it. There were felony warrants out for months as criminals just ran around doing the same shit finding more victims. At least a lot of that got cleaned up. That said, I don’t see you and others discuss much about what is happening right now and the positives of sexual assaults, assaults, murders being down 50% over same period last year. Seems you guys get more upset that Trump sent them there whereas others see the positive in less fewer people dead. I don’t believe you guys weight that enough, because Trump. People will get defensive, but it’s true.
I think a lot of people get in the mindset that government is always bad but just in my lifetime, we have seen and continue to see so many resources be cut to help people, educational opportunities, support, mental health facilities/support, health care in general, yet everything is more expensive and our deficit continues to grow. If we are going to spend money, it needs to go back to supporting our people. Or we at least need to have a way to replace the things we are losing if we are going to cut it. No one benefits from an unhealthy society. As far as the Memphis issues, I don’t believe you can fix things there without weeding out the corruption. And that’s an issue in most places with issues. Starts with a lot of poor leadership and morally bankrupt people. This shit didn’t happen overnight and it’s not gonna be fixed overnight. I don’t see stepping on our rights are worth it without major changes. Now you could convince me to adjust my views on this if I thought this was a short term fix and there was a plan but I just don’t see that being the case right now.
I agree with you. You can throw as many national guardsmen at it as you want to, but until you address root causes like poverty and corruption, it's a bandaid at best. I don't think anyone here is going to argue that the permanent occupation of American cities is the answer... and that's what it would take if you can't address the root causes.
I don't think the plan is permanent occupation. Just get it cleaned up and have the threat of re return if things don't stay on track. Imo
https://x.com/meidastouch/status/1996037852413730892?s=46 Pretty big win for the democrats just get this under 10 percent.
So, it ends up about +9 for Van Epps in a high turnout election for the 7th. This was a +22 Trump/GOP vote last November and all counties had a large turn to the Democratic candidate. More indications the midterms could be trouble for the GOP.
You can make a material difference in cities just by putting people in prison who belong in prison (most crime committed by small group of repeat offenders), but yes at the end of the day agree that even that is a bandaid without addressing root causes.
How bad does Epps suck? I know nothing about him lol, but he must really be uninspiring if Behn was able to do that well because she clearly is a complete lunatic.
Well one campaign was brain dead and one wasn’t. This wasn’t my district but from what I could tell, most of Van Epps campaign was either “I’ll always back Trump” or blasting Behn. The she hates Nashville rhetoric really wasn’t a great strategy either. Every time I saw her she was talking about fixing the roads or problems with rural hospitals. She may be a lunatic but she seemed to speak on the things most want to hear right now.
Behn isn't a lunatic, you just got fed a bunch of the right wing media blitz which portrayed her as such. She wasn't a great candidate, but was pretty good about staying on point about her core issues and has a decent following here in the city. Mostly, the displeasure with the GOP is rearing its head the few elections we've had this fall.
Just once when they go on a tirade about someone being on the far left of the democratic party, I wish someone would ask for examples of who are on the moderate or right side of it.
I don’t think video ing yourself bragging about following and stalking ICE vehicles shows mental stability in the least or shows you should be leading or speaking for anyone other than others who would do the same stupid shit
Yes, which is much less out there than the blond Rashida Tlaib. She's not nearly as good at the politics stuff as AOC which left her more as not bad but not great as a candidate and this district bleeds red. The fact she made major gains for the Dems in every county, rural, suburban, and urban, was more of a protest vote against the GOP than anything.
