There are 8 times as many slaves in the U.S. than in Haiti, according to those statistics. Yes, it's different proportionately, but still bad in both places. Regardless, it still renders his point about Jefferson, slavery and Haiti moot and silly.
Did you not read past the first sentence? And, yes, I went to the website. There are 400,000 slaves in the U.S., so I would say that's not good, right? It also means there are other reasons why it exists here and in a greater proportion in Haiti than one having Jefferson and the other not. By the way, quick and interesting note here, Jefferson was the president during the Haitian Revolution and worried that rebellion would lead to another slave revolt in America. So, Jefferson tried to suppress the Haitians, placed an embargo on the new nation and refused to recognize the country.
Comparing a slave rebellion to a rebellion of slave owners is, uh, well it just doesn't make for a good argument.

I'd like to laugh, but then someone will dig something insignificant up on Neyland and we will be playing in Pilot Stadium.
In a way, this makes what happened a little bit worse. A guy gets killed by a cop summoned because he allegedly tried to spend a counterfeit 20 dollar bill, and that cop is cheating the state and city he lives in and works for out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. No justice at all in those events.
I remember having Theotis Robinson coming to speak to a class I attended at UT and being very uncomplimentary about Neyland's attitude regarding the first black athletes at UT. He pointedly said he didn't call it "Neyland Stadium", but "Shields-Watkins" instead.
