Don't buy up too much gas, you want all those people to be able to leave.

Hearing from credible sources that Trump is set to announce a Purge-like lawlessness to be permitted during three minutes or so the sun is completely covered.

Gas doesn't worry me. I have, however, cornered the market on Basil Hayden.

Went to orientation for my daughter's school. The middle school kids will not be allowed to change classrooms after 11. They will not be allowed out of the school without a parent at normal pick up times. And it is recommended that when we so pick up at 3, we carry an umbrella. WTF is wrong with us now?

I'm going to be honest for a couple of seconds here. I was in middle school the last eclipse in south Florida, we had one of those stupid ass boxes with o hole poked in it. You could see the sun, but it was a stupid little dot. I was thinking, this is stupid. I looked right at the sun. It was nothing. I'm on a couple of dolphin fishing teams mostly because I can see the birds that follow the bait from a mile away. My vision is freaking fantastic. People are just being a little stupid right now in my opinion

    There's no doubt it's a little overboard.

But I bet you didn't look for too long unless the eclipse was in totality. 15-20 seconds can definitely leave a burn.

With most eclipses we get, that's not an issue because there's enough sun there that we can't bear to look that long. But cover enough, and you can stare too long. This one will cover enough for a bunch of the country for that to be a concern.

At the very least I would require signed permission from parents absolving the school system of liability if I were going to let the kids out to watch. And, I'd probably take that approach. It's an unusual event.

Kid's daycare says signed permission slip, and parent present.

Parents just south of Crossville set up to have perfect weather and an absolute perfect location ... a mile from dead-center. Jealous.
