An airline passenger was left “sobbing with happy tears” after she witnessed a man’s compassion towards a frightened elderly woman on their flight.

Megan Ashley had been flying from San Diego to Nashville last month when she overheard a 96-year-old woman saying that she was anxious because she had not flown in 15 years.

When the plane began to take off, the elderly woman asked the young man sitting next to her if she could hold his hand.

“She asked for this man’s hand during takeoff and then hugged him again when experiencing turbulence,” says Ashley. “This gentleman I should say, gladly took her hand, let her hold onto him, calmed her by talking to her and explaining everything that was happening … he helped her stand up to go to the restroom and watched her carefully walk down the aisle.

Sgt. Seth Craven, 26, had flown to Philadelphia from Afghanistan on August 5 in preparation for his wife Julie's scheduled cesarean section on August 9 in Charleston, West Virginia, Craven told INSIDER.

He intended to catch a connecting flight to West Virginia on August 7, but his flight was canceled. He rescheduled his trip so that he would fly out the next day, August 8, but that flight was canceled, too.
Craven said that all the car rental places were sold out due to the storm, leaving him stranded.
Just when he thought he was out of luck, Craven was approached by Charlene Vickers, a programs director for AmeriHealth Caritas Partnership, who was at the airport and offered to help according to WV Metro News. Vickers and her colleagues were headed to Charleston for an event on Friday and she had an extra seat in her car.
"I'm getting to West Virginia tonight, come hell or high water. So are you willing to join this crazy party of ours?" she recalled telling Craven, according to WV Metro News.

Larry Yockey owns a 12 hundred acre farm in Ritzville. But he has stage 4 skin cancer and can no longer work his fields.

So, his neighbors came out with their equipment. They were able to complete three weeks worth of harvesting in just six hours.

"It's not describable the gratitude I have for what's going on," Yockey said.

Brady Campbell's father passed away a few weeks ago after a battle with stage 4 colon cancer.

Brady said he and his dad came up with the idea for a lemonade stand.

"To take my mom on a date. Because I didn't have enough money and I wanted to pay. So I did it," the 6-year-old told WWLP.

The day after his father passed away this 6-year-old followed through on his promise to take care of his mom.

Giovanni Hamilton has a very rare condition, Schwartz-Jampel Syndrome, and the type he has is the first case ever documented. He's had 12 surgeries but has kept a positive outlook on life.

Friday at Eagles camp, the 11-year-old met his hero.

When Wentz went over to sign autographs after practice, Giovanni was moved to tears.

Giovanni's mother was also crying.

"It was what got us through, just the possibility of today," said mom Shannon Algarin. "When the moment actually happened, it was like, 'Wow. This is worth everything we've gone through this year'."

Algarin said her son had a whole speech planned. Giovanni wanted to tell Carson — who has come back from many injuries of his own — that he was going to be like that, too.

But when the moment came, all Giovanni could say through his tears was: "You're my hero."

Logan Simmons was working the drive-thru at a Chic-fil-A in Hall County when a car pulled up with a 6-year-old choking inside.

I just jumped out the window and ran straight down to the car," he said.

Once outside of the restaurant, Logan jumped in the car and found the little boy's mother, begging for help with her son's seat belt that somehow got tangled around the child's neck.

Logan pulled out a pocketknife, cut the little boy free and prevented a possible tragedy.

An hour later, the little boy's mother called Logan and thanked him for saving her son's life.

When her 7-year-old son had to fly alone to visit his father, Alexa Bjornson was a little worried.

Her son, Landon, has high-functioning autism, but traveling can be difficult for him. So, she gave her son a note to present to the passenger seated next to him on the flight.

"Today my son took his first flight to Oregon to see his dad," Bjornson wrote in a Facebook post. "I sent Landon with a letter to give to whoever sat next to me saying he has high functioning autism so he might be nervous and ask you 'are we there yet' a lot, and please just make him feel safe and comfortable, with 10 dollars in the note."

Ben Pedraza ended up sitting next to Landon.

At the end of the flight, Pedraza snapped a photo with Landon and sent it to Bjornson with a reassuring message.

According to his obituary, Wayne Lee Wilson passed away on May 28th without any surviving family members. His funerary service was shaping up to be a small memorial ceremony with just 10 of his close friends.

As his service was being orchestrated by Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Nile, Michigan, one of the mortuary’s interns, Drew Mickel, felt compelled to honor the late Vietnam veteran by inviting additional people to the memorial.

Mickel worked with the funeral home and local newspaper in order to publicize the funeral and ask readers to stop by the service on July 17th—and he was stunned by the amount of people who responded.

Over 3,000 people from Michigan, Iowa, Tennessee, Indiana, and Florida arrived at the service to pay their respects.

“It turned out that a lot of people showed up, saying that he might not have family but I’ll be his family for the day,” Mickel told ABC News.

“It was unlike any other funeral I’d been to,” he added. “This one was very uplifting and just [had] the message of you’re never alone.”

David's family had been farmers for decades but, unfortunately, an ancestor decided to sell the 80-acre farm. This made the entire family upset but David was determined to win it back again.

When the land went up for sale again through an auction, David and his father decided that they would save up money to buy the land back.

On the day of the auction, more than 200 farmers were present. David thought there was no way they would have enough money to outbid the other farmers.

But the farmers did something nobody was expecting.

After David and his father placed their bid, not a single person spoke up.

As it turns out, those 200 farmers did not attempt to bid because they wanted the family to get their land back.

After many attempts to solicit another bid, the Auctioneer took a break. Three times they took breaks, and each time everyone remained completely silent. Eventually, the auctioneer had to slam down the gavel and give David and his father the winning bid.

"I've had two profoundly humbling days in my life," David said. "The first was the day my son was born. The second was that unforgettable day at the auction house."

Blake Ockleston and Daniel Coyle-Smith, both 13, were out catching Pokemon when they saw the man waiting at a double crossing in New Lynn.

Ockleston said the man was shaking as he stood next to his walker.

"He looked like he was struggling to walk," Ockleston told Stuff.

The two friends decided to put Pokemon hunting on hold and step in and help.

They held onto him as he walked but halfway across the light turned green.

Coyle-Smith said he stopped traffic so they could continue crossing.

"We decided to sit him down on his walker and we pushed him across, and then again at the next crossing," Coyle-Smith said.

The boys walked him all the way to the train station and asked a security guard to help the man from there.

Their act of kindness was captured by Lyqueeshah Brooks, who posted the photo on Facebook.

"My heart is so full [right now]," she captioned the photo. "These boys helped this man cross 2 pedestrians in new lynn right now .. shout out to these boys parents if it wasnt for them no cars would have waited for this man to cross."

Slade Thompson, 5, from Clinton County, Pennsylvania, was at UPMC to get his tonsils out. It was his second surgery this year.

He's been through a lot this last year," said Slade's mother, Layla Thompson.

After the surgery, while Layla was in the waiting room, a team of nurses went to check her son's vitals.

"When I told him Mom couldn't be there, he asked if I would snuggle him and I said, 'sure will'," said Annie Hager.

When Layla walked in the room and saw them, she snapped a photo that's been shared hundreds of times on social media.

"You want someone to treat your child the way you would treat them, you know, so whenever I turned the corner and saw them, I looked at my fiancé and we both went, 'Aww!' We both started getting a little teary-eyed," she recalled.

When Slade came back for another appointment, he brought flowers and a hug for his new friend.

"I cried, yeah," Hager said. "It's humbling."

Allison is the first MD Anderson scientist to receive the world’s most preeminent award for outstanding discoveries in the fields of life sciences and medicine.

“By stimulating the ability of our immune system to attack tumor cells, this year’s Nobel Prize laureates have established an entirely new principle for cancer therapy,” the Nobel Assembly of Karolinska Institute in Stockholm noted in announcing the award to Allison and Tasuku Honjo, M.D., Ph.D., of Kyoto University in Japan.
