Discounting beating florida and bama a couple times isn’t really fair. We didn’t beat either one for nearly 20 years.
Beating Saban in Neyland is one of the top 5 moments in my life. Beating year 1 bama head coach is a little different. Heupel also lost to 5-7 Napier in 2023.
Heupel losses that stick out to me: 2022 South Carolina 2023 Florida 2023 Missouri 2024 Arkansas 2024 Ohio State (we didn’t even play the same sport that they did) 2025 Oklahoma 2025 Vanderbilt That’s leaving every loss from 2021 off due to it being year one, and that leaves off every loss to Georgia because he isn’t beating Kirby Smart.
2021: Best win was a 3 point win at Kentucky. No other notable wins. 2022: Best win was Alabama. Other notable wins were @ LSU, vs. Clemson in the Orange Bowl. 2023: Best win was against Iowa in the Citrus Bowl. No notable wins in the regular season (best was either against 7-6 Kentucky or 7-6 A&M). 2024: Best win was against Alabama (first year head coach). No other notable wins. 2025: Best win was against at Mississippi State or at Kentucky. Both finished 5-7. Best win may have been Syracuse, but after the QB injury that one is hard to judge. No other notable wins. Helluva resume.
Heupel has to change the mentality of the program in an off season, that's a big hill to climb. This was a soft, whiny ass team that laid down way too much. They never responded to getting hit in the mouth, outside of Mississippi State. I like him but barring something rarely seen in the football world, it will end after the 2027 season in a firing.
This team has watched Nico and Boo be allowed to act like jackasses for two straight seasons and it’s rubbed off on everyone.
Speaking of idiots, I’ve noticed helmet head hasn’t stopped by since last night to impart any of his wisdom.
Nah. Usually takes a few days for the water carriers to return to the board after a game like yesterday. Will be business as usual Monday.
Yes. I like him, too, but you have to win on the line to do anything in this sport and we don't bother to do this under Heupel. There's only so much scheming and trying win 42-37 every game working out. For some reason, Elarbee has avoided the criticism he got last season, but the OL was still mediocre, at best. They certainly don't impose themselves on any league opponent. The defense was incredibly soft up the middle in addition to being completely lost schematically. So, yeah, I'm on the same page. He's gone after 2027 if he can't address these glaring issues. He should have 2027 as a bright spot with the type of recruits he's getting, but it won't matter if he does nothing to shore up the toughness and coaching staff problems and I haven't seen anything to suggest he's going to do so.
Yeah you get attacked a little if questioning Garner but fact is his DL was gashed all year up the middle, didn’t pressure and didn’t prevent qb runs right by them. Don’t remember many batted balls on the many quick throws we saw. They looked like they were told to just take up blockers and let a teammate make the play.
You would think these recent coaches would figure that out. After Majors/Fulmer, I don't think these guys really understand it.
Was chatting with buddy during the game and caught myself saying “I forgot how much I despise Vandy.” We’ve taken it for granted lately, but the intense hate is there, just under the surface, waiting to erupt. I do not like those [uck fay]ers at all.
It is easy to forget because of this: https://www.winsipedia.com/tennessee/vs/vanderbilt I almost gave up during the Dooley/Jones/Pruitt years. We lost so many times my head was spinning.
I'll take my lashings if I'm getting my history wrong but without vandy, Gen. Neyland doesn't come to Knoxville correct?
