Anyone that knows football can look at our defensive alignment for basically every play and know Banks is an idiot. He has guys out of place constantly and does not know how to check out of calls when the offense makes a call at the line. This is like very basic football stuff he is screwing up. I don't see how you could pay someone 2 million a year to be this bad at their job. He only looked good last year because we had mature guys that overcame the bad positions he put them in. He is not a good coach.

And we teach a zone that, apparently to my eyes, is taught to stand in their spot in the zone, watch and wait UNTIL THE BALL IS CAUGHT then go and tackle them. Like guarding the grass is how a zone works instead of guarding the, I don't know, ZONE?

 

Its been this way from the start for me. Its just way more obvious when you have a younger roster because they trust the coach more than they do their instincts. Take a look at Jordan Matthews at Vandy. He is 3rd on the depth chart there and that is about where he was here. He has 6x his tackle production there. Why, because he has a coach that knows how to put him in position and give him his best chance at success.

 

A zone that is about 5 yards out of position. We look foolish.

It's one thing to hire a guy and go "well, shit he's not gonna work". Extending his contract? Unnecessary

I don’t know why Heupel doesn’t ever seem to be aggressive in finding exceptional coordinators. Does he just think the vibes or camaraderie or whatever are more important than track record? I get the loyalty thing, but even when someone leaves, we’re never in on elite replacements.

Hell we don't even properly use a LB to spy on a run threat QB. Its just so bad from every aspect of a defense.
