absurd and i'd bet the VAST majority of those people under $500k in income are business owners claiming they aren't making money rather than joe schmoe.
and the article makes no sense. yeah it's cheaper to audit the guy making $20k, but the rewards for auditing that guy compared to zuckerburg aren't comparable.
If you get a tax bill for $50 million, I bet you'll work real hard to validate the numbers. Whereas I would just have to send you a bill. The question is not about stupidity. It is about overseeing expense. How is it expensive to oversee?
so you get a tax bill for $50 mil and you say "no that's wrong i really owe $30 mil." who's going to go back and figure out who is right? as someone else said there is a reason why other countries stop doing this.
2015 vs 2019. you're out of date. this is typical of an exchange with you, where a cherry picked time window from the tax foundation is put up against the best available and most current information, as if they are equal. I guess fox business is fake news.
i very much doubt it's changed that significantly in 4 years. the article states that more low income tax payers are being audited than before. it's not saying it's more than rich people.
here is from 2018: Adjusted Gross Income 2018 Audit Rate 0 2.04% $1- $25,000 0.69% $25,000-$50,000 0.48% $50,000-$75,000 0.54% $75,000-$100,000 0.45% $100,000-$200,000 0.44% $200,000-$500,000 0.53% $500,000-$1,000,000 1.10% 1,000,000-$5,000,000 2.21% $5,000,000-$10,000,000 4.21% over $10,000,000 6.66% https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/what-are-the-odds-being-audited.html
They probably stopped because after you do it once, you pretty well are good for a decade. I will take the $30 million. I trust your paperwork. NEXT!
I can only conclude from your sharing this as evidence of wealthy people being audited more that you believe the number of millionaires to be similar of people below the median household income. How you think that makes any mathematical sense, I have no idea. My guess is that you have engaged in an emotional knee-jerk response to a claim that runs counter to the persecution complex the wealthy have regarding government, and have failed to distinguish between "more" and "odds." If 10 out of 100 poor people are audited and 20 out of 100 rich people are audited, way more poor people are being audited because there are way, way more poor people. Wealthy people are not audited more. The IRS themselves say so, and sheepishly say it is due to cost.
and again is amazon a poor person? because that's exactly the type of stuff that gets audited. people who have big sales, but show zero income.
The Bernie bros, woke left, lazy journalists and purity testers can all go [uck fay] themselves. The audacity to make absolute judgments on situations they haven't the first clue about. Dumb [uck fay] assholes.
McKinsey released Pete from his NDA and he provided details in an Atlantic interview. Now they're all blaming him for BCBS of Michigan layoffs and coverage issues which took place 2 years after his 3 month stint - his first with the firm, btw. His responsibilities were (and would be) extremely limited and his project was not related with layoffs or premiums in any way. The hatred they have for the man is downright bizarre. Oh, they're also claiming he was involved with a bread pricing scandal when working on a project with Loblaw's.
The Bernie crowd is getting dangerously close to demonizing any gainful employment. No job can pass their purity tests. Well, only if they are/were held by a socialist.
Woke left logic: eliminate insurance companies - they're evil! ALSO Pete worked to eliminate jobs at an insurance company (he didn't) - he's the devil!
Yes! But you should be careful, here, as I think that there are several “woke” social justice warriors up in this mug, and who believe that white folks are always the problem. Even the gay ones. It’s going to make for an awkward DNC platform committee meeting.
