The pivot to Samuel L Jackson being the more insidious villain was just fantastic. You have Once Upon a Time too high, imo.
You know, the whole thing about the General’s daughter was just...masterful. You’re correct on Once Upon a Time....I so badly wanted it to be his best work AND commercially successful....but it just isn’t. He plays it way too safe, and it never just quite seems to get there. I still think many will see it as his masterwork - even I did, when I first saw it - but subsequent rewatches haven’t fleshed that out.
I wish I had read more about what QT was doing with Once Upon a Time before I had seen the movie. I'll probably enjoy it more on rewatch.
