South Carolina students stage a walkout, in part, because they want the university to acknowledge the university's part in slavery. These administrators are about 3 or 4 generations removed. Sigh.
So then what would be a big deal about acknowledging a dark page of history? I get why you're sighing and rolling your eyes at this stuff. But there is another side of the coin to this as to why doing such a thing would even be a big deal.
What do the people currently in charge have to apologize for? Some weren't even thought of when that was happening. What good does a hollow apology from someone not attached to those events do?
Because it doesn't affect anyone in the least nor do they give a shit about it unless it presents them with some sort of leverage in a grab for gibmedats.
The list of things the students are wanting is much more logical than what the initial news article reported.
so it's the official position of USC that it didn't happen? I don't understand what they're supposed to do
