It has been talked about among experts in international relations for some time, going back to the early 90s. It is been a great carrot to bring Eastern European and the former Yugoslav countries in line and for that reason alone I personally find the EU valuable. People soon forget why it was smart to lock Germany in an institution like this with France and Britain. But to your question... many of the political features to come out of this cooperation will stick around (being able to travel seamlessly from EU country to EU country) but there will be serious reconsideration about the effectiveness of such an overarching economic program.
South Park lives by this philosophy. Although they were prevented from offending Muslims a couple years ago.
So, those groups are wrong. What's the point? Someone beat me to South Park, as well. You do it in a way that's funny and not just looking like you are shitting on some group, then it's very easy to pull off. A lot of people do it today. The [itch bay]ing about it only comes from people who, incorrectly, perceive the idea that they can't under any circumstances.
flat out that we were the reason their economy sucked. and also that we let people die in the streets without medical coverage.
Just curious, but did what exactly did they accuse us of doing to tank their economy? I'm honestly not sure what they're getting at.
wall street greed. same bs as teh occupy movement. it was pretty obvious they weren't well versed on the subject, but just decided that the problem started with us.
I had a layover in Paris in 2004 and made sure I was wearing my Bush/Cheney shirt for the sole purpose of pissing off any French person I saw. Granted, I miscalculated how many people we would encounter because of customs and the like, but I know I accomplished my task, if only to a few people.
For the record, I love France. The food, the writers, the history, Andre the Giant, and Alexis de Tocqueville. I was surrounded by Germans in graduate school. Each one of them was kind, funny, well-mannered (of course!) and they got along with everybody. Yet for some reason I just like France. Weird.
News Headlines Not France, but I didn't want to start a new thread. Why do we not understand this is what we are facing sooner rather than later?
greece has to be gone from the EU. it should be intersting to see what happens when the new even more left wing govt takes over and they literally run out of money to pay their many many govt employees and pension plans. we might see an actual revolution.
An actual revolution towards what, though? Could go even further wacky, with them blaming external forces for all of their woes.
i imagine it will be a screw the rich and foreign investors govt. the new govt is already talking about nationalizing the banks which i think is funny because i wouldn't want the liabilities if i was them. but they are stupid enough to think this will result in more money for the people.
They're going to be an economic crater for the next couple of decades. On the plus side, by the time I am retirement age they may be on the mend and I can pick up a super cheap little cottage on the Aegean.
i honestly think we are looking at a 40-50 year mess at least. they've already suggested banning foreign ownership of real estate, but i'll be there with you if they don't do it.
