I'm not trying to knock on Kiffin here, but did no one else scratch their head when he was hired by the Raiders? It's just a thought. It seems like I remember people talking about crazy ol' Al at the time.

I do think Jones' record is more impressive than Kiffin's at his hiring. I don't think it's stellar by any measure, but neither was.

I tied him getting to where he is so fast to Monte, and the package deals with Monte on the college level helped him land UT and USC. I promise you it was in the "pro" column of the ADs and committees

 

i can't speak for UT, but he certainly would have gotten the SC job without his dad along for the ride. they tried to hire sarkisian too. they were attempting to bring the "gang back together" and kiffin was a big part of that gang.

You didn't say USC and UT, you said college head coach. UT wasn't the only school looking into hiring Kiffin in 2008. Monte wasn't coming on board for all of them.
