Yeah, have never heard a HC, interim or otherwise, say they consulted with an AD to dismiss a player.
My guess is he gave the coaches the same speech. He then decided to make a spectacle out of it after being dismissed. This has to be a Currie move, showing his next coach that he will have his back no mater what, even if that means booting the most talented player on the roster. That or Currie is a legit moron, like have a seat and eat your pudding kind of stupid.
I like Jennings. I would prefer he not get the boot, however guys acting disrespectfully to the coaching staff and going unpunished is one reason the locker room went to shit the past two seasons.
Bad decision makers unfortunately seem to continue to make bad decisions. JJ had to have done something. Rape allegations lead to only suspensions. He got booted from the program via the Bahamas
We've got maybe 5 players that have performed like grown ass men. Seems like you could take JJ to dinner, explain to him that things are going to get better, and tell him to calm down until the next coach is in place. But Tennessee gonna Tennessee.

I agree 100% with everything Jennings said, but he'd be stupid to think he could do that and there not be some negative repercussions, especially considering his history here. I hope whatever he does, he lands on his feet.
