I would be interested to see what the money making numbers are on the road courses and the tracks in California and Homestead. They can't turn much profit when they go to those places. They should have never got away from what was working for them. A more southern based product
They make their money from Fox, ESPN and soon NBC. I don't see being out west as a problem as Vegas and Phoenix are both good tracks. I'm not a fan of Fontana but that is a track issue not a location issue. I think they would do well in Washington state but they may have a lot of rain outs there. I also like the occasional road course as long as it stays about 2 a year on the schedule.
I have come to enjoy them more than most ovals, not sure I would add any more, at the risk of oversaturation, but seeing a few different venues rotated in wouldn't be a bad thing.
Co-signed. I would add the following: 9. Shit-can the 1.5 mile cookie-cutter tracks & add some 1/2 & 3/4 mile tracks to replace them. 10. Oh and blow up New Hampshire Speedway.
This new TV contract will eventually phase out anything pre-2003 NASCAR. Expect different qualifying formats, timed races and more manufactured "Game 7 Moments" over the next few years.
North Wilkesboro was awesome racing. It was a ligistical nughtmare though. I was at the Earnhardt/Rudd dust up at North Wilkesboro back in the late '80s. I've never seen so many chicken bones & beer cans (empty & full) thrown at a car in my life as I did when Rudd came back around.
