Well if we are hearing that they are being investigated, sounds like ultimately nothing was worth all the auditing.
I assume the investigation is because it was those 2 and so close together which is pretty unlikely. Not completely unlikely but probably worth looking at. I'm curious if they owed any extra money at all.
I would be curious on the general statistics of that sort of thing, too. Like, how often do people who are audited owe extra money?
I’d bet a large majority of the time, but the irs doesn’t have a lot of money to do audits so they generally don’t do it unless you are rich and they’ve already found something.
My understanding is that the poorer and middle class folks are more likely to get audited than wealthy folks,because in part it takes a lot more labor to audit a wealthy person than a normie.
From what I read this is largely due to an automated system seeing that a form was filled out incorrectly
