2006 Hex (4th round) Panama lost 3 at home 2010 2nd round (played and won 1 home game vs El Salvador but lost away and on goal difference) 2014 Hex: lost 1 at home (USA San Zusi goal that put Mexico into the playoff vs. New Zealand) 2018 Hex: undefeated at home (lost 1 at home in the previous round) So maybe if 16 years is measured to the day it cuts out some of the 2015 losses? And you can only count the Hex/Octagonal final round. And one year they crashed out super early, although El Salvador was the worst second round draw (US got Barbados). And that one loss was a killer.
Well, I have tickets for the Mexico game as well, so hopefully you guys aren’t too upset about the performance tonight.
I think Berhalter was saved from himself with the Arriola injury. It meant Weah started and Timothy is a much better player.
We still look like a team with difficulty scoring. By all rights and purposes we should have been peppering that goal with shots, but our numbers were just alright there and only 2 more SOG than Costa Rica. Berhalter's lack of offensive competence is going to make this journey tougher than it should be.
Well, mystifying coaching decisions aside, it looks like it’s going to be North America bossing this round of qualifying. We played like absolute crap in Panama, but I just don’t see them hanging over 14 games. Kinda hoping Jamaica goes on a run and overtakes them and Costa Rica (and then gets drawn against somebody other than CONMEBOL)—that’d be a fun change of pace.
