1 is not possible so long as we aren’t interested in being part of the world, rather than its leader. It’s also a pipe dream, true free trade extends beyond goods, but services as well. And there will always be barriers to who can provide services that are deemed essential. 1 also requires a global court so that disputes can be handled the same across borders.
I'm just imagining what happens if the best place in the world to manufacture a particular important product is location X, therefore, 90 % or more of all of that product is manufactured there, and then a catastrophe occurs at location X. Seems dangerous not to have some dispersed production through some incentive rather than relying on the market alone and setting up for things the market can't or won't account for.
The market is just people. The most of the same issues are going to be the same for government, since it’s made up of people too. There’s no perfect system and I doubt ever will be. I have no issue with the military keeping the production of most things domestic for security issues.
The market will adjust for thisnat times though. Diversification of supply is a factor in a lot of manufacturing or production locations.
just fro ma tariffs standpoint: aren't those companies producing vehicles that will be sold here? Or at least North America (NAFTA)? Same thing with operations by GM and Ford going overseas. For example - I don;t thing finished vehicles are rolling off assembly lines in China and being shipped here. They may be being made in Mexico and shipped here, though.
If you want viable 3rd parties then the lower houses of legislatures would need to become parliamentary...there will always be "tribalism" in politics as policy is what matters to people. Sometimes that tribe is former around a very small set of issues. That works in parliamentary systems but not ours. I always find it interesting and in some ways funny when people vote for the "best candidate" regardless of party. The guy or gal may be a nice honest human being on a personal level but be for policies that would screw your financial and moral interests. I will be pulling the lever again for Dejarlais in November not because he is the most upstanding person but because he votes for the policies I support. His past lack of personal integrity has not prevented him from voting the "right way." I believe character matters but policy is more important. Can that bite you in the arse? Yep it sure can when someones lack of character affects their ability to carry through on promised policy. See Don Sunquist and the income tax. The only presidential candidate I hated voting for was McCain. I have been perfectly comfortable voting for the R in all the rest. There is a calculus as neither voting on character or policy alone gets it done. I tried to primary Dejalais and I wrote in Cruz instead of voting Trump. So far on policy I am mostly pleased with both. On a personal level I am not interested in meeting either one of them.
Don’t mistake the person for the message, as many do with Trump. Her message was more compelling and gave you a better chance to win than Bernie’s would have. IMO, JMHO. The Democrats path to reclaim the WH and/or Congress will not be paved on ANTIFA / socialism / victimization / being “not Trump” / or disparaging and disregarding those who voted for him. Yes, yes, yes....of course I’m retarded, racist, sexist, not “Woke”, am a Nazi, etc. it’s all so obvious that I’m all of these things, and much, much worse.
