Randy Sanders best calls as OC - 1. The above mentioned formation TD pass to Kelly Washington 2. Throwing the streak with Joey Matthews from our 1 yard line when Tee got hurt in 99 Bama (he doesn't underthrow it and it's a 99 yard TD). 3. The wing around against Miami on 4th and 3 in 03. 4. The above mentioned fade to Leonard Scott. So absurd it almost worked.
It annoyed me they never tried to get him the ball in other ways, but the long and short of it is he was just a sprinter playing football
Kenny O’Neal was another one. Sanders never quite figured out that everyone knew there was a 110% chance of an end around if he came on the field
I remember one rainy game when O'Neal came out late. Looked like Robin Williams from that old football movie coming off the bench with a clean jersey.
This is all countered by the bajillion naked bubble screens he called that always lost 5 yards. Sanders singlehandedly cemented my hatred of that play.
It was 03 and was a gutsy call. My only real gripe about his offense that season was outside of that particular play, he completely ignored Tinsley all year. In retrospect, Sanders was the victim of Fulmer not supplying him with good position coaches and John Stuckey leaving after '01.
If you recall, he was asked why he didn't run that end around to Tinsley more often and his response was "the more you run it, the better chance they have of stopping it"
