It's funny, because Hat's Kevin O'Neil takes were what first convinced me that he definitely knew what he was talking about.

 

What was his O'Neil take?

 

That the dude was actually a very good coach and great basketball mind. That we fired him right before it would have all paid off, and ended up with the Jerry Green experience which squandered all the talent O'Neil had been assembling.

 

Thanks man, things are decent I suppose, kids starting back to school and demanding expensive shoes. I can’t talk them into great value sneakers anymore.

 

I mean he was probably a good coach but shit was painful to watch for me. I need some pizzazz in my life, throw me some jazz hands.

 

Defense travels and consistently wins games.

 

O'Neil couldn't kiss ass. He would flat out tell people how stupid they were, even if they were his AD or a big time booster

 

Yeah but KO coached a lot of games and didn’t really win that many, at a bunch of stops

i tend to agree that Tennessee was going to work for him though

 

Percentage wise he didn’t win that much

 

And lo, he was right. They were stupid.

 

He would have with the players he was bringing in.

 

I mean anywhere in his entire career

 

Also, know that this is where Hat would have dropped an elbow onto you from the ceiling. I can almost hear it.

 

We were his window, and it shut early. He didn't get the same kind of windows again. Spent a lot of time in NBA circles as I recall.

 

He could try all he wants but you are what your record says you are.

 

I'm just sad Hat isn't here for this. I don't know what he would have said, but somehow it would have been eviscerating.

 

Ok weirdo. Anyhow, I like ssmiff's idea. Let's try to round up tickets for Knoxville youth for a basketball game or something.

I have a couple of Nashville buddies who were on that team. They loved O'Neil. He knew fundamentals and defense for sure. Offensively closer to Hoosiers 7 passes but no Jimmy Chitwith to show Kevin sometimes you just have to let a player take his defender and get out of the way.
