CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — A new look at a 425-year-old map has yielded a tantalizing clue about the fate of the Lost Colony, the settlers who disappeared from North Carolina's Roanoke Island in the late 16th century.

I've always been of the opinion they were killed by the native americans, but then again I've not thought about it in 15 years either.

 

I recall there being some genetic evidence that they were absorbed into a nearby native group, possibly after some (or most, as in the men-folk) were killed by another known aggressive tribe.
