Three dumbas Ole Miss students posed in front of a shot up memorial sign for Emmett Till with guns. They are pieces of shit. That being said, several people have claimed this is "Trump's America" in the comments. How the hell do you come to that conclusion?
I honestly don't know how they could be that dumb. I had to look up who Emmett Till was after this story broke, but seeing as they are in front of the memorial sign, they should have already known who he was and why there is a memorial there.
Yeah, but it's really, really dumb in this case. It's Ole Miss, they can't help but do dumb shit like this every few years.
Seriously? I guess I’m just old as hell but I can’t believe anyone with a college education wouldn’t have known about Emmitt Till.
Yeah, it’s unfair to say this is Trump’s America. This is Mississippi. This same thing was also Obama’s America, Bush’s America, Clinton’s America, etc. I am of the belief that Trump’s word choices embolden some - but others were not in need of any validation. And a fair number of those live in Mississippi.
Emmitt Till was killed in Eisenhower’s America... I suppose that’s just part of the job though. You get a ton of credit for stuff you had little to do with but you catch a lot of heat for stuff you had little to do with also.
The saddest part, to me, has been the continual defacing of the Till sign. Why? What makes you angry about the murder and mutilation of a 13 year old boy?
“..so that all the world can see..” Mamie Till Bradley Any responsible deserve swift and severe punishment.
Unfortunately, it was the norm at the time. A few notable items have always stuck out about Mississippi as I've taught and studied African-American History. One, when they were looking for the bodies of the three Mississippi Burning civil rights workers they found 8 other bodies of murdered blacks whom had not attracted much attention, which makes me wonder how many more were killed without being known (A lot). The second is no white person in the state was ever convicted of murdering a black person until the 1970s. It's always been a place that's a little bit, er, "special".
Thank you very much for posting this, Tenny. Hopefully his mother was given sainthood, because she handled that better than I ever could have.
