This you droski? ------------------------------------------------------------------ Dear Faux Pelini, My buddy and I have had Cal Bears football tickets for 10 years and he no longer wants to purchase them. How lame would it be if I went to the games by myself? Scott N. Listen Scott, I’m sorry your friend is such a boring loser, but I have good news: You don’t need to be afraid to go places by yourself. People aren’t going to think less of you. Now, this isn’t because these people love and accept you for who you are — it’s far simpler than that. It’s because nobody really cares what you are doing in the first place. It’s nothing personal, Scott — people just care about themselves and their plans and their stuff. So don’t be anxious that someone is going to see you by yourself at a football game, or a movie, or even a restaurant. If they notice you at all, they will assume there’s a good reason — like maybe you’re a restaurant or movie critic, or an NFL scout checking out Cal prospects (OK, bad example). They will consider these possibilities for around 2.5 seconds (roughly the time it takes to turn left into an intersection) and return to their own lives. Do what you want to do, Scott, because nobody really cares. You’re the star of the Scott Movie, but the only people watching it are your family and close friends, and their opinion of you isn’t going to change if you go to a football game or two by yourself. You’re a Cal fan, they probably already question your sanity.
I was just kidding. I've done it before. A lot more fun to go with a friend, though. Dining alone always seems fairly awkward, but no one can tell, or is paying attention, whether or not you are alone at a UT game.
