Fun story out of Lexington - There is a big music festival there this weekend and there are zero hotel rooms within an hour of campus. Teams are having to stay in UK dorms and fans commute.
And the University is charging the teams to stay in the dorms. Kinda embarrassing but par the course for that school.
The thing with the music festival and the regional in a small-ish town like Lexington is hilarious. But the dorms aren’t going to clean themselves and nobody is going to clean them for free so I get charging for it. The NCAA should step in and pay.
Kentucky should pay for not being equipped to properly host a regional despite submitting a bid. The spin by UK fans online about this is embarrassing. Staying in these dorms is somehow better than staying in a 3 star hotel.
No, the NCAA should haven’t given them a Regional in the first place. Especially given we had the same conference record and took 2 of 3 from them two weeks ago.
Depends. Did they disclose potential issues when the bid was submitted and still get awarded? I saw the festival was only announced 6 months ago. I assume bids were in by then. UK should’ve been blocking off hotel rooms the moment that was announced.
It’s my understanding that bids are submitted in April. Here’s the form. Deadline is late May. https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/ch...seball/d1/2022-23DIMBA_PrelimBidChecklist.pdf
I think they get reimbursed from the NCAA for stuff, kinda like when I go on a business trip but I have to put it all on my card and submit an expense report. Teams might be saving a little bit of money on dorms vs hotels.
Financials are out there for the world to see. 653K in investments seems like a lot to me at first glance. https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/ncaa/finance/2021-22NCAAFIN_FinancialStatement.pdf
