This idea is at least becoming more popular in the media/social media. Gist is this - after the CFP expires and tu/OU come in the league, the SEC would play it's own playoff from 4 to 8 teams and tell everyone else what they can do with themselves. Do I think it will happen? No. Would I completely write it off? No there as well.
That would be a complete and utter disaster. No way it ever happens, but I can see it trotted out there to scare other P5 schools and make the NCAA just go away.
There's a small part of me that hopes the PAC-12 and the Big-Can't-Counts are delusional enough to say they don't need the SEC. But if it were to happen it would kill the sport, at least from what it has always been for me.
I think it would lead to the collapse of the ncaa. You would see other super conferences form and a new intercollegiate order come about that is a whole lot less centralized.
If this happens, every other non name-brand team better be terrified because the SEC will likely go into full expansion/super league mode.
My guess of likely targets (in rough conference order) Miami FSU Clemson VA Tech Penn State Ohio State Michigan Mich St Wisconsin Iowa Nebraska OK State Tech or Baylor USC UCLA Oregon Washington Notre Dame
Exactly the direction. No one will admit because the SEC still needs the NCAA for now but it's the goal. Imo
