Well about a quarter of their roster has hit the portal so they have plenty of room.

 

Players saw they finally have a schedule and know Smart can’t beat Saban in reg season or SEC championship game. Smart run is over.

 

I sincerely do believe part of the calculus is the schedule. Cupcake counter is closed.

I will say it once more and it is more than ok that I am alone on this one. But, I believe it is best for the future of Vol football for this bowl game to be Nico’s. That doesn’t mean Nico is head and shoulders better than Joe now. It doesn’t mean Joe is a bad guy or that he deserves anything less than a healthy dose of respect. My reasoning is the reps and experience would do a lot for evaluating for and preparing for 2024.

Should Joe be banned from the game? No. Would I have an issue with each getting a full half? Maybe a small one. But Nico got inexplicably few reps this season. A bowl game is a relatively low risk way to do that. And I will not be juiced to watch Joe. Seen enough.

I mean him no ill will. But, I am ready to move on. And I believe 2024 could use a number of Nico reps in the bowl. If you believe we owe Joe every snap possible that is your opinion. If you think it will save the locker room by proving loyalty to Joe, then fine. If you think every young qb dreams of leading his 8-4 team in a meaningless bowl game near his home town, then so be it. I just do not. I think 23 was a bit disappointing and turning the page would help us.

 

Joe got the start in the Orange Bowl last year and was awful this year. It may not be the building block you think it is

 

The only way Joe doesn’t start the bowl is if he opts out.
